FESS is not currently accepting applications.  Please check the website periodically to keep up to date.

FESS is the first step in the hiring processes of each

participating fire department.

Requirements:  Applicants must have a Certificate of Compliance for firefighting from the state of Florida, Florida EMT or Paramedic certification, valid Driver's License, and current CPR card.  If you do not have Florida certificates, contact the Florida State Fire College for information on reciprocity.

 

bulletWhen you complete the FESS program your name will be put on a list that is sent to the participating Fire Chiefs which they will use to select candidates for further evaluation.

 

bulletThere is a fee of $50 for participating in the FESS program.  This must be paid via money order.  Personal checks will no longer be accepted.  Money Orders must be made payable to VCOG (Volusia Council of Governments).  This fee does not include a CPAT certificate that can be presented to departments that do not participate in FESS.  If you would like this certificate you will need to contact the Volusia County Fire Services Institute at (386) 239-6427 for more information.

Unfortunately, there is no provision for hand delivering the application.

Include in your application the following:  Money order made payable to VCOG, complete application packet, copies of your Florida State Certificate of Compliance for firefighting and Florida EMT or Paramedic certificate, driver's license, current CPR card, ACLS card (Paramedics only), EVOC certificate, and any other applicable copies (college degrees, additional training, etc.).  If you have military experience also include a copy of your DD-214.
